Sunpower Yachts reaches the water’s edge as its 90ft solar electric catamaran prepares for sea trials.
The Sunpower-Alva 90 has officially rolled out of the construction shed and is now positioned at the water’s edge, marking the final stage before sea trials begin.
Developed by Sunpower Yachts International, the 90-foot solar electric power catamaran is believed to be the first of its kind in the world, combining fully integrated renewable energy systems with long-range capability and luxury cruising. The rollout marks a significant milestone, both for Sunpower and for the broader adoption of clean energy in the marine sector.
An advanced solar array spans the vessel’s substantial deck area, feeding next-generation battery storage and electric propulsion systems engineered for silent, emissions-free cruising. The near-zero noise and vibration profile sets a new standard for onboard comfort, while dramatically reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Over the coming weeks, the Sunpower-Alva 90 will undergo rigorous sea trials, testing its performance, efficiency, and real-world capability in open water conditions.
“This is not evolution, it’s revolution,” a Sunpower spokesperson said. “The Sunpower-Alva 90 proves that sustainability and luxury are no longer mutually exclusive.”
The rollout arrives as pressure mounts across the marine industry to adopt cleaner energy solutions. Sunpower’s achievement places the company at the leading edge of that transition, with sea trials expected to commence shortly and further announcements to follow.
