New Zealand’s biggest annual showcase of marine products, fishing gear, innovation and family attractions drew 215 exhibitors, including 73 first-timers, across 13,828 square metres of exhibition space. Two hundred and sixty-six boats, 366 motors and 117 trailers were on display.
Show General Manager Helen Kay said the anniversary milestone gave this year’s event something extra. “To celebrate 70 years and see the industry and boating community turn out in such strong numbers was incredibly special. There’s a real sense of tradition and connection with this show, for many families it’s something they’ve been attending for generations.”
“The atmosphere across the four days was fantastic. From serious buyers to young kids discovering fishing for the first time, it really showcased the depth and passion of New Zealand’s boating culture.”
The grand prize and a long-running joke
This year’s Surtees/Yamaha Grand Prize Package, a brand-new boat, motor and trailer combination, went to Mark Stamm, a show regular who has been turning up with his brother since 2001. The brothers had a long-running joke between them: if they ever won the boat, they’d cut it in half, Mark taking the front, his brother the back.

Sunday came and went without news. The pair stopped for dinner on the drive home, decided they’d just have to come back next year, and then Mark’s phone rang.
Peter Busfield inducted into the Hall of Fame
The exhibitor function brought another highlight, with Peter Busfield named as the 2026 Hall of Fame inductee. The former Executive Director of the New Zealand Marine Industry Association was recognised for more than 30 years of service to the industry.

Busfield was unable to attend the Friday evening event, so the award was accepted on his behalf by his son George, owner of Barclay Yachts, and grandson Hugo. Newly appointed Director Callum Gillespie made the presentation.
