Australian yacht builder Maritimo is making a serious case for the 75-foot sector with vessels that prioritise blue-water cruising over marina-bound glamour. The M75 flybridge and S75 sedan models represent a deliberate departure from European design trends, favouring practical long-range performance and owner-operated ease of handling over dramatic styling.

The difference shows in the fundamentals. Both yachts carry 10,000 litres of fuel, substantially more than many comparable vessels, enabling owners to cover serious distances without constant fuel stops. At 10 knots, you’re looking at ranges exceeding 1,500 nautical miles, opening cruising grounds from Australia’s east coast through the Pacific that remain inaccessible to less capable boats. At cruise speeds around 24 knots, you’ll still achieve 400nm between refuelling.

The hull design reflects this philosophy. A sharp bow entry cuts cleanly through head seas, whilst the geometry flattens progressively aft for better efficiency. Reverse chines and significant flare reduce spray and improve seakeeping, while a deep centreline keel enhances stability and protects the running gear. It’s a feature favoured by serious offshore cruising yachts but increasingly rare in modern European designs.

Rather than adopting pod or V-drive systems like many competitors, Maritimo retained inline shaft-drive propulsion with shallow shaft angles. This choice trades some manoeuvrability for mechanical simplicity, durability, and straightforward servicing, all valuable when thousands of miles from home. The straight-shaft arrangement also lowers the centre of gravity, contributing to stable running attitudes in offshore conditions.

Owner feedback from Maritimo operators confirms the boats live up to the brief. Skippers who initially worried about handling a 75-footer report their concerns vanished quickly, with many saying they wouldn’t exchange their Maritimo for anything else. The wide decks and swim platforms invite genuine liveaboard comfort, while careful engineering throughout reduces noise and vibration for fatigue-free long passages.

Measuring 23.07 metres overall with a six-metre beam, these yachts pack interior volume and capability typically associated with much larger vessels, yet remain genuinely manageable for owner-operators. Optional MTU engines deliver 30-knot sprint capability when needed, but the real story lies in what happens at lower speeds, where range, reliability, and comfort take priority.
