Southern Boats has announced a new four-model amphibious range, covering lengths from 7m to 8m, with the first vessel due to launch in September this year (2026).
The new range extends the company’s well-established reputation for handcrafted alloy construction into the fast-growing amphibious sector. Southern Boats are regarded among New Zealand’s more skilled alloy boatbuilders, and the amphibious models will share the same build quality and on-water performance standards the brand is known for across its existing range.
New Zealand’s appetite for amphibious craft has grown steadily in recent years, driven by the country’s mix of coastline, estuaries, and remote beaches where conventional boat ramp access is limited or unavailable. The ability to self-launch and self-retrieve directly from the beach removes a significant logistical barrier for coastal boaters, and demand for capable, well-built amphibious vessels in the 7m to 8m range has been particularly strong.
With four models planned across that size bracket, Southern Boats’ new range is set to offer options across a variety of use cases, from family boating and fishing to more serious offshore and coastal work.
