Caring for Kennedy Bay has long been central to Waiheke Marina, and partnering with the SeaKeepers South Pacific Chapter allows the marina to extend that commitment further. As SeaKeepers’ first marina partner in New Zealand, Waiheke Marina is providing berthage and logistical
support for marine science and conservation activities.
“SeaKeepers connects scientists with local boat owners, whether for research trips or citizen science projects,” says Tom Warren of Waiheke Marina.
“In Auckland, this includes work we care deeply about, such as kelp forest restoration and manta ray counts. Offering safe, reliable berthage is a practical way we can help.”
Established in 2023, the SeaKeepers South Pacific Chapter links vessels, scientists and educators to advance marine research and conservation across the region. As a Marina Partner, Waiheke Marina will act as a regional hub for visiting research and DISCOVERY vessels, citizen science initiatives, educational outreach and the promotion of sustainable boating practices.
“We are thrilled to welcome Waiheke Marina as our first marina partner in New Zealand,” says Melissa White, Director of SeaKeepers South Pacific. “This partnership strengthens our ability to support marine science and education in one of the world’s most ecologically significant regions.”
