Calvin Clements joins Smuggler Marine as ops manager

Written by

Calvin Clements has joined Smuggler Marine as Operations Manager, taking up the factory-based role at the Auckland builder’s Henderson plant.

Clements brings more than 30 years in the marine industry to the job, with a background spanning diving, fishing, marine electronics, vessel operations and customer support.

He’s also spent time as a Training Officer and Training Skipper with Papakura Volunteer Coastguard, where he helped build the unit’s Search and Rescue capability and trained the next generation of volunteer crews.

Smuggler Marine Managing Director David Pringle says Clements’ experience speaks for itself. “Calvin’s depth of experience and understanding of the marine industry is second to none,” Pringle says. “His knowledge, and customer-first approach will be invaluable as we continue to expand our product range and deliver exceptional boats and service to our customers.”

For Clements, the move was straightforward. “I’ve known David, Pauline and Logan Pringle for many years, and I’ve always had a huge amount of respect for what they’ve built with Smuggler Marine. Joining the team was a very easy decision,” he says.

He’s watched the West Auckland builder’s amphibious range grow from the outside. “Smuggler has earned a reputation as one of New Zealand’s leading boat builders, I’ve watched the brand continue to evolve, particularly with the growth of its amphibious range and exciting new models that are in development.”

The appointment lands during a busy run for Smuggler. Boating NZ covered the launch of the all-new Stealth 800 Amphibious in June, designed with naval architect Brett Bakewell-White, which followed the 800 Centre Console Elite shown at this year’s Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show.

Clements says he’s looking ahead. “I’m excited to be part of the team and look forward to contributing to the next chapter of Smuggler’s growth while helping deliver the best possible experience for Smuggler customers.”
