New Zealand windfoiler Aimee Bright has maintained her excellent start to the iQFOiL under-23 World Championships in Poland, holding the lead in the women’s fleet for a second consecutive day.
The Manly Sailing Club sailor backed up her impressive opening day, when she won three of four course races, with another strong performance overnight ( NZ time) as the fleet switched to slalom racing in lighter winds on the Bay of Puck.
Bright recorded finishes of third, fifth and first, with an 11th discarded, to remain at the top of the standings after eight races.
She now holds a five-point advantage over Norway’s Maya Gysler, with Gysler’s compatriot Tuva Oppedal a further point back in third.
Bright’s training partner, Stella Bilger, who now represents Australia, is fourth overall.
The leading trio consolidated their positions on day two, while Italy’s Medea Falcioni made one of the biggest moves of the day. The 15-year-old won two races and finished no lower than third in the remaining heats to climb into the top 10.
Bright will be looking to maintain her advantage as racing continues tonight, with the championship entering its next phase.
In the men’s fleet, Italy’s Federico Alan Pilloni remains in control after winning all four of his heats on day two. Home sailor Stanislaw Trepczynski moved into second overall after three race wins, while Leonardo Tomasini, also of Italy, is third.
