2026 saw the birth of Kawau Race Week, in 2027 it grows into the Evolution Sails Kawau Classic, run by the New Zealand Multihull Yacht Club, organisers of the PIC Coastal Classic and PIC Harbour Classic, with the Kawau Boating Club as host.
Over Auckland Anniversary weekend, 29 to 31 January, the racing fleet sails five races on general handicap, mixing laid-mark courses with passage races around Kawau’s islands. Alongside it, a cruising rally offers relaxed daily passages, with prizes for best dressed, biggest fish and a poker run. Every evening finishes at the Kawau Boating Club with a live band, a party, and prize giving.
Keelboats, multihulls, trailer yachts and sports boats are welcome, but the fleet is capped at 100 boats, so don’t wait. Early entry is $150 until 16 December.
