The race, a crucial event for all teams vying for a place in the semi-finals, started with a major upset as the Dutch team was forced to sit out due to hardware issues, reducing the field to five boats. As the starting gun fired, Sweden leapt into the lead, but their dominance was soon challenged by a fast-starting Australian crew.

Early in the race, Australia surged ahead, pulling out a 50-metre lead by the end of the first leg and passing through Gate 1 at 3:30. Sweden trailed 15 seconds behind, with Spain, Germany, and a struggling Canada rounding out the field.

Australia appeared to be cruising with a 150-metre lead going into the second leg, but in a repeat of previous races, disaster struck. They fell off their foils, allowing Sweden to pounce and reclaim the lead by Gate 2. The Swedish team maintained their focus, passing through the gate at 6:35, a full 26 seconds ahead of their Australian rivals.

However, the excitement was far from over. As the teams entered the pivotal third leg, Australia came roaring back, briefly overtaking Sweden and establishing a slender 50-metre lead. At this point, all teams were clocking around 28 knots, making the next few moments crucial for deciding the race’s outcome.

Despite Australia’s aggressive push, Sweden once again demonstrated their resilience. As the race approached its final stages, the Swedish boat hit 36 knots, while Australia faltered, touching down and losing valuable momentum. In a swift manoeuvre, Sweden pulled 150 metres ahead, securing a decisive advantage as they approached the finish line.

In the end, Sweden crossed the line at 13:53, just 14 seconds ahead of a determined Australian crew. Spain finished third, followed by Germany, with Canada trailing far behind in last place.

This victory marks Sweden’s third consecutive win, securing their place in the semi-finals of the Youth America’s Cup. The Swedish team’s tactical acumen and ability to capitalise on their rivals’ mistakes have been key to their success throughout the competition.

With the semi-finals approaching, all eyes will be on Sweden to see if they can maintain their winning streak in what promises to be an electrifying conclusion to the Group B races.
