1972 Adams 45

The 1972 Adams 45 Hornpipe is a proven bluewater cruiser built for serious offshore and coastal adventures. Constructed in Corten steel by professional builders, she’s a strong, safe and spacious vessel with a solid voyaging pedigree—including trips through Europe, the South Pacific, and a full circumnavigation of New Zealand.
Measuring 13.7 metres (44.95 feet), Hornpipe is cutter-rigged and features five watertight compartments for added security at sea. Steel bulkhead doors in the pilothouse seal off the forward and aft cabins, giving excellent safety and peace of mind in challenging weather conditions.
Her layout is tailored for liveaboard comfort. A large swim step and generous decks lead into a pilothouse that can be enclosed with drop-down clears—ideal for winter living or summer entertaining. Aft is a private double cabin with ensuite. Forward of the pilothouse is a spacious main saloon with seating for four around the dining table, plus an additional settee for relaxing or socialising.
The galley is fully equipped with a gas oven, microwave, and ample storage, positioned on the port side opposite a well-laid-out head and shower. Forward again is a double V-berth with plenty of storage, making this vessel well-suited to longer-term cruising or full-time living aboard.
She’s powered by a reliable 80hp Ford engine with 2,293 hours on the clock, with a generator housed in a dedicated engine room/workshop beneath the pilothouse. Access is through watertight hatches, keeping everything secure and dry.
Currently located in Whangārei, Hornpipe is now offered at a heavily reduced price of $69,000. The vendors are motivated and open to all offers. With solid construction, ocean-proven performance and a liveaboard-friendly layout, this Adams 45 represents outstanding value for a serious cruising sailor.
