“Katinka” is a well-maintained example of the 1972 Delta 36, a proven bluewater cruiser with a rich sailing history and robust pedigree. Designed by renowned German naval architect Uwe Bartels and built by Delta Yachts in Germany, this yacht was originally conceived as a regatta contender. Over time, it was refined into a fast, safe, and reliable offshore cruiser that combines performance with comfort.

This yacht has successfully sailed from Europe to New Zealand under her own keel, a testament to her ocean-going capabilities. With a sleek, Sparkman & Stephens-style hull profile and long overhangs, “Katinka” delivers a sea-kindly motion and responsive handling. Her fin keel and low centre of gravity—achieved by placing key systems like water tanks, battery banks, and engine low in the hull—contribute to outstanding upwind performance and impressive stability, particularly in heavier conditions.

The hull is constructed from solid fibreglass, offering strength and durability for both coastal cruising and offshore passagemaking. At 10.5 metres (34.5 feet) in length, the Delta 36 strikes an ideal balance between manageability and space—perfect for a solo sailor, couple, or small family looking to enjoy weekend sailing or longer adventures.

One of the standout features is the near-new Volvo Penta D1-30 engine with just 250 hours on the clock. Professionally installed to replace the original, this engine represents a major upgrade and ensures reliability for years to come. The installation is neat and clean, demonstrating a high standard of workmanship and care.

“Katinka” also comes with a comprehensive inventory, including a 2.3m tender, and is currently equipped for straightforward, enjoyable cruising. Her systems are simple to operate and easy to maintain, making her an excellent option for those stepping up to yacht ownership without the complexity or cost often associated with larger, more modern vessels.

Whether you’re looking to cruise the Hauraki Gulf, explore further afield, or simply enjoy owning a capable, character-filled yacht with a story to tell, “Katinka” presents a fantastic opportunity.
