YANMAR’s E-Saildrive Wins Dual DAME Design Awards for Innovation and Sustainability

In our November 2024 edition we featured the Yanmar e-Saildrive. Then from the very recent METSTRADE Show in Amsterdam we learn that YANMAR Marine International's evolutionary E-Saildrive SDe 48V series has been awarded two prestigious DAME Design Awards at the METSTRADE Show in Amsterdam. Recognised in the categories of Propulsion & Dynamics and Environmental, the E-Saildrive was celebrated as a trailblazer in sustainable, functional, and innovative marine propulsion design. Why?

Engineered to simplify the transition to emission-free sailing, the E-Saildrive series stands out for its seamless integration, advanced functionality, and ‘plug-and-play’ design. Requiring no hull modifications, the E-Saildrive can be installed directly into existing engine compartments, replacing traditional combustion engines with ease. This innovation enables sailors to adopt electric propulsion without compromising the performance and reliability for which YANMAR is renowned.

We’re excited to see how the E-Saildrive series will inspire sustainable advancements across the marine industry.”

Launched earlier this year at the Cannes Yachting Festival and the Newport International Boat Show, the E-Saildrive series includes three models—SDe7 kW, SDe10 kW, and SDe15 kW—delivering up to 15kW of power for sailboats up to 40 feet (depending on application and displacement). Featuring a 48V electrical system, the E-Saildrive provides a secure and efficient power source, ensuring optimal performance for users. Owners also benefit from YANMAR’s extensive global support network of over 2,000 distributors and dealers in 130 countries.

In its 33rd year, the DAME Design Awards shortlisted 58 innovative products from 28 countries. The 2024 jury included international design experts, a sustainability consultant, and a master’s-level design student, reflecting a renewed focus on sustainable and forward-thinking marine solutions.

The DAME Awards, established in 1991, celebrate excellence in marine design, highlighting products that combine functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics.
