Picton Marina Achieves Prestigious Superyacht Accreditation

A jewel in the Marlborough Sounds earns ‘Superyacht Ready’ status, welcoming global luxury vessels to New Zealand’s scenic heart.

Setting a new standard for New Zealand marinas

Picton Marina, nestled in the picturesque Marlborough Sounds, has taken a significant step forward in luxury marine services, achieving both the “Superyacht Ready” accreditation and the prestigious “Gold Anchor” status from the Marina Industry Association (MIA Australia). These accolades highlight the marina’s commitment to excellence, further cementing its position as a premier destination for superyachts in the Southern Hemisphere.

This announcement follows Picton Marina’s “International Clean Marina” certification last July, achieved in collaboration with MIA and the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA). The combined recognition underscores the marina’s dedication to environmental sustainability, state-of-the-art facilities, and unmatched service.

What does ‘Superyacht Ready’ mean?

The “Superyacht Ready” accreditation is awarded to marinas meeting rigorous standards for infrastructure, security, and service, ensuring they can safely accommodate and serve superyachts. To qualify, Picton Marina first met the criteria of MIA’s Global Gold Anchor programme, an international benchmark for marina excellence.

Anouk Euzeby, Manager of Marlborough Sounds Marinas, remarked on the achievement:

“This milestone strengthens our ability to position Marlborough as a premier international destination for superyachts. With world-class infrastructure, secure facilities, and exceptional marina support services, Marlborough is now a must-visit destination for superyachts in the Southern Hemisphere.”

World-class facilities and local charm

Picton Marina’s advanced amenities make it a natural choice for superyacht captains, crews, and guests. The marina accommodates vessels up to 50 metres in length and 500 gross registered tonnes (GRT), with provisions for larger vessels at nearby Port Marlborough facilities. Security is paramount, with gated pier access and 24/7 monitored CCTV ensuring peace of mind for visiting crews and owners.

Amenities include power, water, and waste facilities, ensuring a seamless and sustainable experience for guests. Beyond the marina, the Marlborough region offers a wealth of attractions. From exploring the famed Queen Charlotte Track to indulging in wine tastings at world-class cellar doors, superyacht visitors can immerse themselves in the natural beauty and hospitality of the region.

Supporting the local economy

Superyachts visiting Picton Marina bring more than luxury—they also provide a boost to the local economy. Guests often explore the region’s renowned vineyards, dine at local restaurants, and engage in bespoke experiences tailored to their interests. Meanwhile, crews utilise local marine services for maintenance and reprovisioning, creating opportunities for businesses across Marlborough.

The marina has also developed a comprehensive guide for visiting superyachts, offering detailed information on its facilities and promoting regional highlights. This ensures that guests and crews alike can maximise their time in Marlborough, fostering memorable experiences and repeat visits.

With this latest accreditation, Picton Marina is poised to attract more superyachts, showcasing New Zealand as a top-tier destination in the global luxury boating market. Euzeby expressed excitement for the future:

“We have already welcomed several prestigious vessels this year. With this new accreditation, we look forward to hosting even more superyachts in Marlborough in the near future.”

The marina’s focus on sustainability and innovation aligns with the growing demand for eco-conscious travel. By combining cutting-edge infrastructure with a commitment to preserving the natural beauty of the Marlborough Sounds, Picton Marina sets an inspiring example for other marinas worldwide.
