Marinas Manager Gareth Wilson noted that the MIA judges found the Westhaven submission “amazing” and said the competition was extremely tight. This commendation arrives on the back of a record-setting result in Westhaven’s 2025 customer satisfaction survey, providing clear validation from both industry peers and the boating public.
In the survey, which drew responses from 512 berth holders and customers, 94% rated the marina five or higher on a seven-point scale—the highest overall result in Westhaven’s history. Staff satisfaction remains particularly strong, with 95% of respondents expressing approval of their interactions with marina personnel. Key drivers included approachability, professionalism, and responsiveness across all staff roles, from dockmasters to front desk representatives.
Satisfaction with facilities also remains high, at 92%—a 1% increase on the previous year. Safety continues to be a core strength, with 97% of users expressing satisfaction, consistent with 2024 figures. Communication channels have improved steadily as well: 94% of respondents preferred email updates, up 1%, and 85% appreciated direct communication with staff, up 2%. Satisfaction with the marina’s newsletters also rose.
These insights, gathered annually, inform the marina’s operations and future planning through its Statement of Intent. “This recognition is not just a win for the marina—it’s a reflection of our customers’ ongoing trust and the team’s hard work,” said Wilson.
While future-focused, Westhaven also continues to honour its heritage. A recent refurbishment of the historic Start Tower ensures the structure remains a visible and functional symbol of Auckland’s yachting past. Originally constructed in 1956 to help manage yacht traffic affected by the newly built Auckland Harbour Bridge, the Start Tower and its seawall walkway were once integral to the coordination of club races. The latest renovations ensure it remains part of Westhaven’s landscape and Auckland’s maritime legacy.
As part of Westhaven’s continuous development efforts, the final stage of the northern reclamation seawall upgrade is set to commence from 12 May. Subject to weather conditions, this phase involves planting trees in the newly constructed tree pits.
