Furuno recently unveiled the CSH10 Omni Sonar, adding a serious new tool to the arsenal of large sport fishing vessels. Compact yet powerful, the CSH10 combines Furuno’s trusted sonar pedigree with advanced scanning technology to help crews find, track, and target fish more effectively than ever.

At its core is real-time 360-degree scanning, providing a complete underwater view with minimal blind spots. The high-frequency 83.5 kHz transducer delivers pinpoint resolution, clearly distinguishing fish from seabed and structure. With an impressive detection range of up to 900 metres, the CSH10 picks up distant schools or wrecks that others may miss.

Furuno has integrated a built-in motion sensor and unique beam stabilisation technology, ensuring clear, steady images even when the vessel is pitching in a rough sea. The system automatically corrects beam angles, so fish targets remain locked in despite the weather.

For skippers, the target lock function is a game-changer. Once a school is identified, the sonar can track its distance, depth, speed, and heading, keeping it on screen as the vessel manoeuvres. Two lock modes allow operators to follow either moving fish or fixed underwater points like reefs or pinnacles.

The fish estimate mark function goes a step further, measuring the length, width, and density of up to two separate schools so crews can decide which to pursue. High-clarity imaging is further enhanced by Furuno’s Auto Filter, reducing noise and sharpening detail.

Ease of use has been a priority. The new, smaller control unit includes a large trackball, tilt lever, and RotoKey™, with optional wired or wireless remotes for deck-side adjustments. Transducer lift/lower times are quick—just seven seconds for the 400 mm stroke unit—allowing faster deployment and retraction when underway.

Designed for vessels up to 20 kn in operation, the CSH10 also offers retrofit compatibility with hull tubes from earlier models. Data recording and playback functions enable post-trip analysis, while multiple display orientations—head-up, north-up, or course-up—give skippers flexibility in presentation.

With its blend of range, clarity, and tracking intelligence, the Furuno CSH10 is seriously worth looking at for serious offshore operators.
