Four decades of WaveRunner innovation

In 1986 Yamaha launched the WaveRunner 500, the world’s first sit-down personal watercraft with an open stern. It transformed the market, making the sport easier, safer, and more accessible to everyday riders.

Forty years on, the WaveRunner name remains a benchmark in design, reliability, and performance. Yamaha has led with world-first innovations, refined handling, and dependable marine engines trusted by riders everywhere.

The 2026 lineup honours that legacy with striking new colours, upgraded features, and the long-awaited arrival of the JetBlaster series in New Zealand.

JetBlaster series

Compact, playful, and built for fun, the JetBlaster is new to Kiwi waters in 2026.

  • JetBlaster (two-seater): The entry-level ski, powered by Yamaha’s TR-1 marine engine with a strong SMC painted hull. Affordable and built tough.
  • JetBlaster DLX (three-seater): Adds RiDE dual-throttle controls, bow storage, reboarding step, mirrors, and two-tone stern mats.
  • JetBlaster Pro: A freestyle-focused three-seater with the TR-1 High Output engine, 4.3-inch Connext display, RiDE controls, and premium upgrades. Built for spins, tail stands, and adrenaline.

FX series

Yamaha’s flagship FX models deliver big horsepower with comfort and technology.

  • FX HO: Powered by the 1.9-litre naturally aspirated engine – the largest in the industry. Features include a 7-inch touch display, smartphone integration, built-in GPS, factory audio, and 168 litres of storage.
  • FX JetFish: Yamaha’s dedicated fishing ski, complete with RecDeck, premium fishing kit, Garmin fish finder and GPS, plus unique JetFish graphics. The 1.9-litre engine ensures reach from inshore estuaries to offshore grounds.

GP series

The GP 19HO continues Yamaha’s race-winning tradition. Powered by the naturally aspirated 1.9-litre engine, it comes with a factory audio system, 4.3-inch Connext colour display, mobile connectivity, and Yamaha’s advanced race controls.

VX series

The versatile VX series returns with bold new graphics and models tailored for every rider.

A new chapter in the WaveRunner story

From the world’s first sit-down personal watercraft to the 2026 lineup, Yamaha continues to lead the way. Each new model blends cutting-edge technology, bold design, and Yamaha reliability, giving riders unmatched excitement, comfort, and confidence on the water.

The 2026 WaveRunner range is due in New Zealand late 2025, with pricing to be confirmed.
