Joky

Written by

Amateur boat builder Hamish Russell asked French designer Patrick Balta to design
a 10-metre plywood sailboat that would be robust, lightweight, high-performance, and meet his specifications.

Russell had worked with Balta before, on a coastal cruiser called Gorfou, which Russell built to a high standard.

The new boat, to be called Joky, has a lifting ballast and a coachroof in the retro style Russell prefers.

With amateur builders in mind, Balta’s design means construction will be greatly simplified with easily expandable plywood panels mounted on rails, primarily on full or partial partitions. The fittings serve as transverse structures, eliminating the need for numerous frames. The plans are studied in detail for the digital cutting of all plywood elements, structural or otherwise.
