A yacht has run aground on rocks near Auckland’s Harbour Bridge after breaking loose from its moorings in strong winds over the weekend.
The harbour master and police maritime unit were at Curran Street on Tuesday, on the city side of the bridge, extracting the vessel.
The harbour master operations manager, Marc Davis, said the 30-foot (9m) yacht called ‘Storm Fantasy’ met its fate.

He said it was beyond repair and had been broken up and disposed of.
Davis said the yacht’s owner was out of the country and had been “pirating” a mooring in Herne Bay.
