KEYPOINTS
  • Cádiz marks the final European stop of SailGP Season 5.

  • Australians (BONDS Flying Roos) lead the standings ahead of Abu Dhabi’s Grand Final.

  • Moderate conditions forecast: 17–22km/h winds, 24m wing.

  • Venue’s Atlantic swell expected to test boat-handling and flight control.

  • Tom Slingsby’s crew look to refine Geneva learnings with fresh data.

The 2025 SailGP season moves to Cádiz this weekend (4–5 October), the last European event before next month’s winner-takes-all Grand Final in Abu Dhabi.

The focus is firmly on Tom Slingsby’s Australian team, the BONDS Flying Roos, who hold the championship lead. With three SailGP titles already under their belt and five podium finishes this season, the crew enter Cádiz with both form and confidence.

Conditions are expected to suit the Australians. A moderate breeze of 17–22km/h and a rolling Atlantic swell will put emphasis on clean starts, stable foiling and sharp flight control. “It’s probably going to be a boat-handling speed race rather than a shifty, erratic course,” SailGP commentator Lisa Darmanin said. “It will be all about teams getting off the startline well and sailing their boat to 100 per cent.”

Coach Ben Durham added that Cádiz will see refinements from recent events. “We have a lot more understanding of the light air T-Foils and the new rudders, so we’re really refining what we learned in Geneva. There’s also a bank of wind data from previous Cádiz racing that we’ll use to sharpen our strategy.”

With conditions playing to their strengths, the Australians will be looking to extend their lead and keep momentum heading into Abu Dhabi, where the 2025 SailGP Championship trophy will be decided.
