Three people have been taken to hospital after a boat overturned at Port Waikato.

Police received reports of people in the water north of Sunset Beach at around 7:15am on Saturday morning.

Surf Life Saving and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter were also at the scene.

The condition of the rescued boaties was not yet known.
