Zipwake PRO: redefining dynamic trim control

When Sweden’s Zipwake launched its first Dynamic Trim Control System in 2014, it changed how powerboats handled on the water. By replacing slow, clunky trim tabs with high-speed interceptors, Zipwake created a system that reacted instantly, keeping boats flatter, faster, and far more comfortable. It was a revolution for serious skippers chasing better performance and fuel efficiency.

Zipwake PRO – a new generation of control

More than a decade on, the company has unveiled Zipwake PRO, a complete re-engineering of the original concept. It’s faster, smarter, and built for the kind of conditions Kiwi boaties know well. Sam from Woodbine Marine – Zipwake’s New Zealand dealer – put the new system to the test onboard a Stabicraft 2350 and was impressed. “It reacts faster, feels more balanced through tight corners, and gives the boat noticeably more control than the standard Zipwake setup,” he said.

The difference comes down to just 0.3 seconds – but it’s a game-changer.

Zipwake PRO interceptor blades move 5X faster, going from zero to full stroke in only 0.3 seconds.

Depending on the model, each blade travels 30 mm or 60 mm. That lightning-quick motion delivers real-time trim correction and powers new smart-control functions including Active Pitch Control, Active Roll Control, and Balanced Turn Control. Together they form the backbone of Zipwake PRO’s expanded performance suite.

Active pitch, roll, and cornering precision

    • Active Pitch Control: Continuously adjusts the boat’s running angle for optimal speed, visibility, and efficiency, automatically compensating for crew weight and sea state.
  • Active Roll Control: Detects and corrects side-to-side motion caused by wind, waves, or uneven load, keeping the boat level and steady.
  • Balanced Turn Control: Adjusts heel angle through corners for a smoother, more predictable feel at the helm.

A new wake-shaping mode also lets skippers fine-tune their wake for tow sports such as wakesurfing – technology once reserved for specialist wakeboats.

Built tougher and smarter

Every component has been upgraded. The new brushless 36 V servos feature double shaft seals and precision-ground stainless-steel shafts for long life in offshore environments. The Distribution Unit PRO delivers more power for faster actuation, driving up to six Series S PRO or three Series E PRO interceptors.

A redesigned control panel introduces adaptive display modes, speed-based responsiveness, and an automatic cleaning cycle to prevent fouling. Connectivity now includes Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and NMEA 2000, allowing seamless integration with multifunction displays and mobile devices.

The range is offered in two modular systems, both plug-and-play and fully backward-compatible with earlier Zipwake setups:

Zipwake: ready to go PRO?

Upgrade without starting over

Existing Zipwake owners aren’t left behind. The Upgrade Kit PRO allows users to keep their current interceptors, control panel, and cabling while swapping in the new distribution unit and servos. Once the latest PRO Software (v4.3) is installed, boats gain the full speed advantage, added control modes, and a cleaner, more intuitive interface – all with minimal downtime.

Real-world difference

Sea trials in New Zealand confirmed that PRO’s response time translates into noticeably smoother handling. “Because the interceptors react so quickly, the boat settles instantly after acceleration and feels more planted in turns,” Sam said. “The new Active Pitch feature keeps the bow right where you want it, even in following seas. It’s not just more comfortable – it feels safer.”

He noted that while not every boat needs PRO, deep-V hulls and offshore rigs benefit most, especially in fast-changing conditions.

Smart evolution for modern boating

With its blend of high-speed actuation, intelligent control, and simple upgrade options, Zipwake PRO takes automatic trim management into a new era. It’s faster, cleaner, and more responsive – a system that makes boats ride better and boating itself easier and more intuitive.

Whether you’re upgrading an existing setup or fitting out a new hull, the PRO series continues Zipwake’s legacy – only smarter, stronger, and five times faster.
