FPT signs Tauranga Diesel Specialists as new marine dealer

Marine & Industrial Power has added Tauranga Diesel Specialists (TDS) to its FPT Marine Dealer Network, giving Bay of Plenty boat owners a local contact for FPT engines and support.

TDS has been owned and run by Peter Hughes for the past 16 years. In that time the business has grown into one of New Zealand’s larger diesel workshops, now employing more than 20 staff. Peter has built the company around good people, solid training, and a focus on service rather than shortcuts.

The TDS site in Judea includes a showroom with well known 4WD accessory brands, and a Bosch Authorised workshop equipped with modern diagnostic and rebuild gear. Qualified technicians look after everything from on and off road machinery to commercial and private vessels. Alongside the workshop, TDS runs mobile units for onsite repairs and servicing.

Peter is a long time member of the Tauranga Sport Fishing Club and skippers his own 48 foot launch, Equalizer. He also manages other vessels on behalf of owners, giving him a practical view of what boaties need from their engines and support teams.

Adrian Penman, Sales Manager for FPT, says TDS brings real depth to their marine network in the region.

“Peter and his crew live and breathe diesel. They know the engines, they know the harbour, and they know how to talk with boat owners. They’re a great fit for our marine customers.”

Over the coming weeks the TDS showroom will start displaying FPT marine diesel engines, Paguro marine gensets, and Flexball electronic controls, giving local skippers a chance to see the gear up close and talk through repower options.

Peter says FPT fills an important gap for his customers.

“We can repair and rebuild pretty much any diesel, but with some older marine engines the numbers just stop stacking up. With FPT on board we can offer a clean repower path instead of throwing money at tired hardware. Having the engines and other products on the floor means people can see what they’re getting, not just look at a brochure.”
