Nathan Williams and the Mr Kite II crew cross the finish line just west of the Auckland Harbour Bridge, completing the 500 nautical mile Three Kings Offshore Yacht Race course in 2 days, 5 hours and 43 seconds. Second on line honours, just 1 hour and 22 minutes behind record-breaker Clockwork after more than 53 hours of racing.
But the line honours position only tells half the story. On PHRF handicap, Mr Kite II’s 0.995 rating does its quiet work, trimming their corrected elapsed to 2d 4h 44m 49s and putting them ahead of Clockwork on corrected time by 36 minutes and 43 seconds.
They said they were coming in hot. They weren’t wrong.
