Flash: Marie Gendron forced to retire after J2 sail damage

©Vincent Olivaud Marie Gendron, skipper of Kereis SNCF Voyageurs, has been forced to abandon the leg after tearing her J2 headsail while lying in 32nd position. The rookie attempted emergency repairs in the shelter of Île de Groix, but was unable to get the sail back in serviceable condition. After weighing up her options and facing the reality that a proper repair wasn’t feasible given the incoming weather window, Gendron made the tough call to pull the pin. She’s notified race officials and is now heading back to Lorient, where Davy Beaudart and Quentin Mocudet have already secured their moorings. The retirement count for this leg has climbed to four.
