Garmin unveils LiveScope 2 Series

Written by

Garmin has released the next generation of its live-scanning sonar, with three new transducer models offering clearer imagery, greater range and simpler installation for anglers.

The lineup includes the LiveScope 2 (LVS44), the LiveScope 2 HD (LVS42HD), and a LiveScope 2 HD Ice Fishing Transducer built for hardwater anglers, with a shorter, flexible cold-water cable and a convenient all-in-one power/network cable.

The LiveScope 2 (LVS44) builds on the previous LiveScope Plus, delivering 20% more resolution and 25% more range, out to 250 feet, for anglers wanting to cover more water and find fish farther from the boat. The LiveScope 2 HD is built for castable distances out to 125 feet, offering what Garmin calls its clearest live sonar yet, with 50% more detail at closer ranges compared to the previous model. Both include integrated image stabilisation and improved stitching, aimed at reduced noise and better target separation as fish and lures move through the sonar beam in real time.

Garmin Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing Susan Lyman said the new series builds on the original LiveScope’s real-time view of what happens below the surface, with clearer target separation at both short and long ranges, up to 50% more detail, broader coverage and a setup that does away with the black box altogether.

A key change across the series is the removal of that black box. The transducers now connect directly to a compatible Garmin chartplotter and power source, simplifying installation considerably compared to earlier LiveScope systems.

Faster processing and lower latency make fish movements easier to follow, helping anglers react sooner when it’s time to strike. A built-in water detection sensor automatically shuts the sonar off when the transducer is out of the water, saving power, and a temperature sensor provides readings while submerged.

Coverage has been widened across all three viewing modes, Forward, Down and Perspective, with an adjustable Perspective Mode Mount and trolling motor barrel mount included in the box, no tools required. The LiveScope 2 HD also supports more than 15 colour palette options when paired with a compatible chartplotter, and can be mounted to a Spy Pole for wireless sonar control independent of a trolling motor. Combined with the GT360UHD transducer, Garmin’s OneVü sonar overlays live sonar onto a 360-degree image for a 3D view.
