A year after introducing its Gen 3 electric jet propulsion system, Auckland based ZeroJet is moving the technology into production boats and expanding the platform beyond its original 15kW configuration.
The Gen 3 system was developed as a compact electric alternative to small petrol outboards, with ZeroJet positioning the 15kW version as comparable to a 20hp outboard. Its minimum 5.4kWh battery installation weighs 42kg, using two 2.7kWh LiFePO₄ batteries.
One of the first production applications came through AB Inflatables, which announced Gen 3 powered versions of its aluminium hulled Lammina AL tenders in September 2025. ZeroJet has since continued work on other installations, including console based applications.
The company is also extending Gen 3 beyond its original power level, with 22kW and 30kW applications now appearing. The enclosed electric jet removes the exposed propeller of a conventional outboard, while providing immediate torque and no exhaust emissions at the boat.
For tender owners, the Gen 3 package brings some practical changes too, including instant electric reverse, a portable charger and a propulsion system with no exposed propeller. ZeroJet powered OC Tenders are available from 3m to 3.91m, with the 15kW system rated for speeds up to 20 knots.
ZeroJet is currently taking orders for the OC Tender package, with an introductory package available for a limited number of boats. Full specifications, configurations and pricing are available through the ZeroJet website.
