Italian builder Sacs, whose Strider and Rebel ranges already move between maxi-RIB performance and yacht-level comfort, has added a third design direction with the Hyper 5S, a 14.6-metre model built around four propulsion options that had its premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival this week.
Sacs, based in Roncello near Milan and trading since 1989, built its early reputation on the Strider line’s maxi-RIB heritage before the Rebel series, running from 40 to 55 feet, pushed the brand further into luxury day-boat territory. The Hyper 5S is neither a Strider nor a Rebel, Sacs says, but the first model in an entirely new range and the starting point for what it calls “a different way of conceiving the boat itself.”
Styling comes from Italian designer Christian Grande, who has also shaped Sacs’ recent Rebel models. His work on the Hyper 5S keeps the brand’s sharp lines while giving the hull and deck a more architectural treatment. The signature element is a flush, uninterrupted main deck that extends via fold-down side terraces, growing usable deck space from 25 square metres to 32 square metres when open. A walkaround bow allows movement forward of the helm even underway.
Amidships, a wet bar opens onto a saloon built around a U-shaped sofa, while aft, owners can choose between a conventional sunbed-and-tender-garage arrangement or two independent sunbathing platforms that can be joined or separated. The helm sits beneath a hardtop, with glass side panels available for a fully enclosed configuration in poorer weather. Below deck, the Hyper 5S has a forward owner’s cabin, a bathroom with a separate shower, and a multifunctional space that converts into a second sleeping area, giving sleeping accommodation for four and capacity for up to 18 people aboard.
The spread of engine options is unusually wide for one hull. Sacs offers four propulsion families: twin 850hp MAN engines on surface drives for outright performance, totalling 1700hp; separate Volvo Penta options in either triple 480hp stern drives or twin 600hp IPS 800 pod drives; and outboard power from quad 600hp Mercury V12 Verado or quad 425hp Mercury V10 Verado engines, the V12 pairing totalling 2400hp. According to Sacs’ own published figures, the stern-drive version has a top speed of 41 knots, a cruising speed of 32 knots and a range of around 260 nautical miles.
The Hyper 5S had public showings at Sacs’ own Destination events through the northern summer, ahead of its wider unveiling at the Cannes Yachting Festival, which concludes today. Alongside Strider and Rebel, it gives Sacs a third strand built around a single hull that can be configured anywhere from quad outboards to quiet-running pod drives.
