AFTER YEARS of unreliable engine speed control on the 37-knot Bluff Coast Guard rescue vessel, Emee NZ Ltd was consulted to recommend an improved, reliable and serviceable system.

Emee NZ found that the 500hp Yanmar engines’ fuel injection pump throttle control levers demanded high torque to move them from idle to full throttle. The new system also had to be proportional to the bridge speed control levers without incorporating more equipment – no extra springs etc. Engine parts were to remain original.

A combination of a GAC ACB 2001 12ft-lb Actuator and an AXIOMATIC AX100310 unidirectional digital control for each engine now supersedes the original equipment. These products together with programmed firmware has made the vessel completely reliable.

Installation of the Emee system is very simple with a manufactured actuator bracket fitted to each engine plus a linkage, an enclosure for the required wiring and the axiomatic controllers mounted externally for access.

Echo Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (EMEE) was established in New Zealand in 1975 to service precision speed control of machinery in process control industries. Especially the control of generating plant, power management equipment, together with ship engine controls and bituminous roading machinery.
