Makaira is a Bristol Channel Cutter 28. These Bristol Channel Cutter 28’s are renowned for their iconic Lyle Hess design and seaworthy pedigree. Makaira’s classic lines, rugged blue water capability, and excellent performance are blended into a compact cruising vessel.
She is Cutter rigged. Hull and decks are solid fiber glass, the impressive bowsprit and bumkin combined with wooden trim make for an aesthetically pleasing, traditionally styled craft. She is a safe, sea kindly, vessel with wide decks and is very easy to manage single or shorthanded.
The Bristol Channel Cutter 28 is an iconic, almost cultish design, and you can find plenty of coverage of the class on the internet. Makaira herself was sailed from the USA to New Zealand. Since 2020, medical issues have curtailed her current owners’ use of the boat.
Antifouling has been kept up, along with some maintenance. She is a sound and lovely vessel who now needs a keen new owner to smarten her up and head her back out into the waves.
