1989 Pompie 40′ Motor Cruiser | Echo Echo’s current owner had a vision to rebuild a classic Pompie Trawler and create a comfortable, long-range passagemaking cruiser with the highest safety standards to take his family on years of adventures. High on his list was a trawler with a Huon pine hull with the potential for maintenance-free longevity and renowned sea-going capabilities. A Pompie Trawler was selected for all these attributes, and he located a sustainable vessel in Queensland’s Hervey Bay and sailed her back to Hobart.
Virtually starting from scratch, he embarked on a comprehensive ‘˜ground-up’ rebuild, commissioning Tasmania’s finest wooden boat builders and tradespeople for which the state is renowned. The original vessel was stripped down to her hull and rebuilt only using the best of materials, and the end result was Echo – a virtually new vessel that would win ‘˜Best in Show’ award anywhere she was entered. Echo boasts the highest standards in every respect, features low engine hours, and can tackle long-range blue water cruising, cruising the Barrier Reef, or simply serve as the most luxurious liveaboard one could find.
The pathway travelled to achieve this one-of-a-kind, as-new vessel has been well documented, but a change in circumstances has reluctantly brought about the need to sell.
