Go undercover

New sheds and covered space for the servicing and maintenance of bigger boats has been the most significant change in the recent upgrading of Half Moon Bay Marina.

The object was to provide service facilities for the range of bigger craft now on the berths of the Marina’s new North Pier, and to turn the old ‘one-season boatyard’ into a twelve-months-a-year operation. Now 24 work bays with fully or partially covered space provide a boatyard system for more efficiency and a faster throughput.  Working time is opened up ‘out of season’ and in all weathers the sheds offer protection from the prevailing  SW.  Yard rates are the same whether open or undercover.

To maximise flexibility around the unchanged yard size, an 85-tonne travelift is now operating in tandem with the existing 35-tonne machine. Each has its own custom runway around a single lifting bay. This allows maximum movement flow and the ability to react quickly to demand for fast turnaround jobs.

Bookings are open to DIY owners, the Marina’s own  trades, and to independent tradesmen.

With the recent closure of the Pier One yard at Westhaven, there will be  around 700 boats looking for service facilities. This will be the season when early bookings really pay off.
