Fountaine Pajot’s ODSea+ hybrid electric catamarans herald new era of sustainable cruising

Fountaine Pajot has redefined sustainable cruising with the launch of its innovative ODSea+ hybrid electric system across its sailing catamaran range.

ODSea+ combines cutting-edge hybrid propulsion with renewable energy production to offer an environmentally responsible cruising experience without compromising comfort, autonomy or safety.

Developed entirely in-house by a team of over 70 engineers, ODSea+ is the only solution of its kind fully integrated by a shipyard, delivering unmatched compatibility and performance for Fountaine Pajot sailing catamarans.

Incorporating solar panels, wind turbines and hydro-generators, ODSea+ allows owners to harness renewable energy both at anchor and under sail. The integrated solar panels – ranging from 400 to 2,000 W, depending on the model – are designed to blend seamlessly with the catamaran’s structure while delivering consistent power to run all onboard systems.

Dual-propeller hydro-generators deliver up to 1kW per propeller at an average speed of 8 knots, while stern-mounted wind turbines offer an additional 600 watts of power generation day or night.

Fountaine Pajot has equipped its ODSea+ catamarans with LFP lithium batteries, renowned for their durability, thermal stability and resistance to harsh marine conditions. Unlike other battery types, LFP technology does not require complex cooling systems, making it ideally suited to long-range cruising.

The electric motors featured in the ODSea+ system are engineered for longevity, reduced maintenance and greater reliability. Even in low battery conditions or strong winds, the system maintains a safe cruising speed of at least 4 knots. A centralised console, also developed in-house, manages all energy production and consumption, ensuring renewable sources are always prioritised while offering an intuitive user interface for effortless operation.

Available across five of Fountaine Pajot’s sailing models—the New 41, New 44, Elba 45, Aura 51 and Samana 59—ODSea+ empowers owners to cruise with confidence and autonomy, even in remote or protected areas. The technology allows for extended stays at anchor without the need for traditional fuel-powered generators, opening the door to a new level of self-sufficiency and environmental stewardship.

The Yacht Sales Co., Asia Pacific dealer of Fountaine Pajot, was the first in Fountaine Pajot’s global dealer network to sell yachts fitted with the ODSea+ system to private “live-aboard” owners, including an Aura 51 and an Astrea 42. TYSC have also sold the first ODSea+ Samana 59 that will be delivered in early 2026 to a private buyer in Thailand—two major milestones in the adoption of hybrid electric cruising in the Asia-Pacific region.

Greg Boller, The Yacht Sales Co. General Manager New Yachts, said Fountaine Pajot has set a new benchmark for responsible cruising with ODSea+.

“This innovative system allows our clients to explore the world’s most pristine destinations in comfort while dramatically reducing their environmental impact,” Greg said.

“ODSea+ marks a significant evolution in eco-friendly yachting, delivering intelligent energy management, powerful hybrid propulsion and a genuine commitment to preserving the oceans we love to explore,” he said.

“We are experiencing very strong demand for ODSea+ systems from buyers across the Asia Pacific region who recognise the myriad advantages of combining state-of-the-art hybrid technology and the world’s leading catamaran designs.”
