Retro boats and caravans hold a special place in Kiwi hearts, evoking memories of summer holidays, weekends at the lake, and the freedom of life on the road. This October, enthusiasts will have the chance to relive that nostalgia — and perhaps pick up a piece of it — at the Retro Boat & Caravan Sale Swap Meet.

Hosted by NZ Retro Boats, the event will take place on Saturday 19 October at the Marist St Michaels Rugby & Sports Club in Rotorua, running from 10am to 2pm.

A gathering of like-minded enthusiasts

The swap meet promises to bring together a variety of retro boats and caravans, all in one place. For buyers, it’s a rare opportunity to browse a wide selection of classic vessels and campers, chat directly with owners, and discover hidden gems. For sellers, it’s a chance to showcase their pride and joy to an audience that truly appreciates the charm of older models.

Event organiser Brendon Cornes says the concept is about more than just sales — it’s about community. “Retro boating and caravanning are part of New Zealand’s culture. This event is about celebrating that history while giving people the chance to connect, trade, and share stories.”

Affordable, simple, and social

With a stall fee of just $20 per boat, caravan, or stall, the swap meet is designed to be accessible. Multiple buyers and sellers in one location means a lively day of haggling, reminiscing, and hopefully some exciting deals.

The event also coincides with springtime in Rotorua, making it a perfect excuse for families and enthusiasts to spend a Saturday enjoying both the swap meet and the city’s wider attractions.
