Purpose-built powerboat for maritime training

Written by

NELSON MARLBOROUGH INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (NMIT) is enhancing its maritime programme for 2026 with a new 6.3m powerboat from DNA Alloy Boats.

Maritime tutor Sam Peters explains that the vessel, named Kina, replaces their old Gemini RIB and meets key requirements such as low maintenance, safety, visibility, and affordability.

DNA Alloy Boats was chosen for their adaptability and communication throughout the design process. Managing director Jason Elvines highlights that the boat is designed specifically for NMIT’s training needs, featuring expanded deck space, Shark suspension seats, and a durable, efficient structure. The new vessel will support NMIT’s growing enrolments and practical training.
