Waiheke Marina: where boating meets island living

A marina stay is about more than just a berth. At Waiheke Marina, the real magic often starts once you step ashore.

Winter is one of the island’s best-kept secrets. The crowds thin, the pace drops, and Waiheke settles into something altogether more enjoyable. Long lunches at vineyard restaurants, coastal walks, quiet beaches, and a food scene that punches well above its weight, all of it sitting minutes from the marina gate.

Getting around is easy. A bus stop sits right outside the gate, Sealink ferries arrive virtually next door, and Gold Card ferry access keeps regular harbour crossings affordable for over-65s. Hire cars are on hand if you want to push further out to galleries, markets or hidden swimming spots.

Back at the marina, the practicalities are well sorted. Groceries and provisions can be delivered directly to your boat, including supermarket orders. Secure berthing, good facilities and a welcoming atmosphere make longer winter stays genuinely comfortable rather than something to endure.

With island accommodation often at a premium, plenty of boat owners have worked out that staying aboard makes both financial and lifestyle sense. Your own waterfront base, ready when you are, without the booking hassle.

And when the weather turns in your favour, you are already sitting in the heart of the Hauraki Gulf cruising grounds, as well placed as you could be for a spontaneous run wherever the tide takes you.
