American sailor Erica Lush has called it quits, notifying race officials of her withdrawal at 6:49am this Tuesday morning. The decision came after her mainsail was torn around 5:30am while crossing a weather front off Île de Ré, where she was holding 36th position at the time.

Lush attempted to repair the damage but determined the mainsail was beyond a quick fix, making it impossible to continue racing with the torn sail. The skipper is safe and well, and will make her own way back to port under her own steam. Further updates to follow. ©Thomas Campion
