At 1:21pm on Wednesday, 3 June, skipper Pier Paolo Dean notified race control of his retirement. The Banques Alimentaires skipper, battling issues with his headsail and a significant tear in his mainsail, found himself unable to round Hands Deep and has set a direct course for Le Havre. The skipper is in good health but understandably gutted at having to make this call just hours from the finish line. Pier Paolo becomes the seventh solo sailor to be forced out of this leg of the race. ©Vincent Olivaud
