Legendary Percy Vos Boat Yard relaunch

PERCY VOS BOAT YARD has been a cornerstone of New Zealand’s wooden boatbuilding heritage for over a century. Established in 1922 and based on the western edge of Wynyard Quarter since 1937, it is Auckland’s only surviving traditional boatyard of its kind.

Following a careful, authenticity-focused restoration, the yard is once again operational and opened to the public during the Auckland Wooden Boat Festival, 13-15 March 2026. Now managed by the New Zealand Maritime Museum Hui Te Ananui a Tangaroa, it supports active projects, training and the sharing of traditional skills.

Community partners, the New Zealand Traditional Boatbuilding School and Pou Kapua Creations Trust will demonstrate European, Māori and Pacific boatbuilding, including a live clinker dinghy build and the final stages of a waka hourua. From later in 2026, both partners will offer hands-on courses and workshops.
