2027 CMP Billfish Classic

Written by

The CMP Billfish Classic will launch in the Bay of Islands from 10–13 February 2027, expanding the hugely successful Kubota Billfish Classic format.

Hosted by the Bay of Islands Swordfish Club at Opua Marina, the event is timed to align with the NZ Sport Fishing Council Nationals, offering teams access to premier northern fisheries. CMP Construction joins as naming rights sponsor, supporting an event expected to deliver significant economic and sporting benefits to Northland.

The CMP Construction Billfish Classic will be based at the new Bay of Islands Swordfish Club clubrooms located at the Opua Marina, opened during Waitangi week by the Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Christopher Luxon.

Entry forms will be available online.

The first event will be limited to 100 boats, allowing organisers to test and develop their systems and infrastructure but with the first one under their belts they are confident it will grow from that as they move forward.

Fishing will extend from north of North Cape down to the Hen and Chickens Islands in the south.
