The new 1,500-lumen surface-mount light weighs 150g and swaps the Sport Series’ bronze housing for hard-anodised aluminium.
OceanLED launched the Sport Mini, a compact surface-mount underwater light, on 22 September.
The Sport Mini produces up to 1,500 fixture lumens from six LEDs, against 6,000 fixture lumens from the existing Sport Series and 1,150 from OceanLED’s X4. The Mini uses hard-anodised PTFE aluminium rather than the Sport Series’ AB2 aluminium-bronze, with a 75mm footprint. OceanLED says its optics draw on technology developed for the company’s superyacht lighting range, and the light carries OceanLED’s Tritonium anti-fouling coating.
Installation requires a single 12.5mm cable-entry hole, with the light surface-mounted to the hull. The unit weighs 150g, operates on 10–30V DC and draws 0.9A at 12V or 0.5A at 24V. It is IP69K rated, available in Ultra White or Midnight Blue, and comes with a five-year warranty. OceanLED recommends it for boats up to 50ft (15m), with two to six lights spaced 0.5–1.2m apart depending on the installation.
OceanLED describes the Sport Mini as “the brightest of its size available anywhere,” though it does not publish comparative test data on the product page to support the claim.
OceanLED’s existing underwater lighting range is already sold through New Zealand marine retailers; Sport Mini pricing and availability here were not confirmed at time of writing.
