A Perko all-round pole light plugs into a Scanstrut base with no metal-on-metal connection. Pricing and availability are still to come.
Scanstrut will show a wireless-powered navigation light for the first time at IBEX, the boatbuilding industry’s technical trade show in Tampa, Florida, from 6–8 October. The company is badging it as new for 2027.
The system pairs a Perko LED all-round pole light with a Scanstrut base that powers it wirelessly. According to Scanstrut, there is no metal-on-metal connection between the two.
Conventional removable pole lights take their power through electrical contacts where the pole meets its base, which leaves a connection exposed to moisture and corrosion. Scanstrut says its design means no corrosion and no maintenance.
In February, Scanstrut head of design George Bowles told Soundings Trade Only the company was working with Perko on wireless lighting systems. He said the work combined Scanstrut’s SystemOne wireless power technology with Perko’s regulatory and lighting expertise. Neither company has yet linked the IBEX light to SystemOne by name.
“Wireless power transfer is ideal for on-board lighting systems, eliminating corroded terminals and failed electrical contacts,” Bowles said at the time.
Scanstrut rates the base IPX6, which covers powerful water jets. The spring-shut lid carries an IPX4 splash rating and has an integrated pole lock. Scanstrut also lists 316 stainless steel hardware and fully sealed electronics.
Scanstrut has yet to publish pricing, a shipping date, electrical specifications, pole lengths or where it will be sold. It also hasn’t said whether the light works with existing Perko bases. Nav-light rules vary with the type and length of boat, and from country to country, so it’s worth checking the light ticks the boxes where you boat.
