Innovation at the heart of Auckland’s Waitemata

Designed and built by Kiwi innovators Vessev, the fully electric and emissions-free ferry is a testament to New Zealand’s leadership in green marine technology. Officially certified in November 2024, the vessel features cutting-edge hydrofoil technology that allows it to “fly” above the water, drastically reducing drag and energy consumption.

Mike Horne, CEO of Fullers360, highlighted the significance of this launch, stating:

“The Electric Hydrofoil Experience is a milestone in our decarbonisation journey and a new era for high-end tourism.”

Passengers can now secure their place on this futuristic vessel, set to glide through the Waitematā Harbour starting in January 2025.

What to expect

The 40-minute journey begins at Auckland’s iconic Viaduct Harbour. Guests will be treated to breathtaking views of the city’s skyline, the Harbour Bridge, and the surrounding islands. Onboard, the experience includes a premium snack, a beverage, and expert commentary about the vessel’s innovative design and the local environment.

The intimate setup, with a maximum of eight passengers, ensures a personalised and educational experience. For those seeking an exclusive adventure, private charters are available at a cost of $2,000 for up to eight guests.

A leap toward sustainability

The introduction of the “Kermadec” marks a significant milestone for Fullers360, New Zealand’s largest ferry operator, which has been spearheading maritime decarbonisation efforts through its Net Zero Maritime initiative.

Eric Laakmann, CEO of Vessev, shared his enthusiasm:

“This is a proud moment for marine sustainability and New Zealand innovation. It’s an achievement that sets a global benchmark.”

You can book your seat today

Available for a limited time, advance bookings for the Electric Hydrofoil Experience are open now for journeys starting 29 January 2025. With demand expected to soar, early reservations are highly recommended to secure a spot on this pioneering adventure.
