Police have extended their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.

“We wish to thank all involved in the search, including members of the public, the Harbourmaster, Coastguard, and the Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board and local hapū for their invaluable support to the whānau,” a Police spokesperson said.

As part of cultural and environmental respect, a rāhui has been placed over the Nukuhau / Acacia Bay area. The rāhui, which restricts activities in the affected area, will remain in place for the next few days, with further updates to follow regarding its lifting.

The death has been referred to the Coroner for investigation.
