Superyacht Sea Lady II engulfed by fire

A dramatic fire broke out aboard the 41-metre superyacht Sea Lady II while moored in the Port of Saint-Tropez, France, on Thursday 11 July, drawing a large emergency response and intense public attention.

The alarm was raised around 6am local time, and thick black smoke was soon seen billowing over the harbour, with video footage showing flames engulfing the yacht’s upper decks. At least four major news outlets, including BBC, The Independent, Boat International and Marine Industry News, reported on the extent of the fire and the swift response by local firefighters.

X user Gary Sturrock (@GoatyG) managed to record video very early in the fire. His comment:
“Oh my goodness! We just witnessed a luxury yacht Sea Lady II on fire in Port of Saint-Tropez.”

The vessel, Sea Lady II, is a 1986-built motor yacht designed by Stephane Pastrovich and last refitted in 2017. The 41-metre vessel is registered under the Cayman Islands flag and was built by W.A. Souter & Sons in the UK.

Emergency crews worked for several hours to bring the blaze under control. According to SuperYacht Times and The Local, the fire was largely extinguished by mid-morning, but authorities continued to monitor the hull due to the ongoing risk of the yacht sinking. Firefighters were seen deploying pumps and containment booms to mitigate potential environmental damage, as noted in multiple reports.

At the time of the incident, Sea Lady II was docked and unoccupied, and no injuries were reported. Both Page Six and The Evening Standard confirmed that the fire was limited to the yacht itself and did not spread to neighbouring vessels.

Tourists and onlookers gathered at the waterfront throughout the morning to watch emergency services tackle the fire, with footage of the incident circulating widely on social media and international news platforms.

Authorities have not confirmed the cause of the blaze. A formal investigation has been launched by French maritime and fire services, according to The Local and Boat International.
