Airmar opens ANZ distribution centre in Melbourne

Expanding presence down under

Airmar Technology Corporation, a world leader in ultrasonic transducers and CHIRP technology, has taken a major step toward strengthening its foothold in Australasia with the opening of a new distribution centre in Melbourne.

The facility will serve as Airmar’s regional hub for both Australia and New Zealand, reducing lead times and freight costs while improving access to the company’s extensive range of marine and industrial sensors.

According to Airmar, inventory will be on the ground in late November 2025, with shipments from Melbourne beginning immediately after. The warehouse will provide next-day delivery to New Zealand, an important change for local installers, boatbuilders, and marine electronics dealers who have previously relied on long-haul shipments from the United States.

Faster supply, stronger support

The new facility will hold Airmar’s full product portfolio, including CHIRP and conventional frequency transducers, SmartBoat™ monitoring systems, SmartFlex™ Diesel Flow Meters, WeatherStation® Instruments, and a range of ultrasonic sensors used in marine, industrial, and environmental applications.

Airmar Vice President of Sales and Marketing Jennifer Matsis says the move reflects the company’s close and long-standing partnership with the marine industry across Australasia.

“Having local inventory means improved product availability, shorter lead times, and faster support for installers, boatbuilders, and industrial customers throughout the region,”
said Matsis.

The Melbourne base will allow Airmar to better support its key OEM partners — including Garmin, Navico, Humminbird, Raymarine, and Furuno — while maintaining its role as a core supplier to the broader marine electronics sector.

Airmar Certified Installer programme

Alongside the new warehouse, Airmar continues to expand its Airmar Certified Installer (ACI) programme, designed to help technicians correctly select, install, and service transducers. The company says this hands-on training ensures the best possible performance for recreational and commercial users alike.

Dealers across the region will soon be able to open accounts through a new web site, launching mid-November. Online ordering and account management tools are expected to go live in early December, and the site will also serve as a resource for consumers seeking the right transducer for their powerboat or yacht.

A global leader with local reach

Founded in 1982 and now part of Amphenol Corporation, Airmar has grown into one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-performance marine and industrial sensors. The company operates twelve sales and support offices in eight countries, supplying technologies that span recreational boating, commercial fishing, oceanography, meteorology, and manufacturing.
