Norwegian builder Viknes has picked up a major international award, with the new Viknes 10 taking out the Best for Family category at the Best of Boats Award 2025. For a brand that builds tough coastal cruisers for the North Sea, the result underlines the strength of the design and the way it suits everyday boating families.
The timing is ideal for Cameron Burch from Charlie Bravo, who has just returned from visiting the Viknes yard on Askøy Island, north of Bergen. His trip included time on the factory floor as well as sea trials across the wider range. He says the setup is neat, efficient and backed by a methodical approach to building and checking each boat. “They run a tidy operation,” he said. “Every stage of the process has someone taking responsibility for the finer details.”
Norwegian design that fits Kiwi use
The Viknes 10 measures 10.60 metres with a 3.52 metre beam. It carries the hallmarks of Scandinavian cruisers: strong construction, a sheltered wheelhouse, wide walkaround decks and good space for families who want to stay aboard for a few nights. Three cabins, a sensible galley layout and a roomy cockpit make it suitable for coastal cruising and longer weekends away. Fuel and water capacity are generous for a boat this size, and the swim platform is large enough for a tender system and gear.
The Best of Boats judging panel focused on the boat’s day to day strengths, noting, “The Viknes 10 shines with its rock solid build, clever details and spacious design. Born on Norway’s windy west coast, it is a true family gem.”
Viknes CEO Kristian Sivertsen accepted the award on behalf of the team. “Winning Best for Family means a great deal to us,” he said. “It tells us we are doing the right things for owners who want safe, practical boats they can use throughout the year.”
Charlie Bravo brings Viknes to local buyers

Charlie Bravo is the New Zealand representative for Viknes, operating from Westhaven in Auckland. With more Kiwi families looking for sturdy cruisers that handle a range of conditions, the arrival of the Viknes 10 lands at a good time.
Burch believes the boat’s background will appeal to local owners. “These boats are built for real coastlines and real weather. They’re comfortable to live with and honest in the way they handle. After seeing the yard up close, I think the Viknes 10 will make a strong impression here.”
For New Zealand buyers wanting a family cruiser built for mixed conditions and year round use, the Viknes 10 is now firmly on the radar — and Charlie Bravo is ready to support owners from first enquiry through to launch.
