Australian yacht builder Maritimo is making a serious case for the 75-foot sector with vessels that prioritise blue-water cruising over marina-bound glamour. The M75 flybridge and S75 sedan models represent a deliberate departure from European design trends, favouring practical long-range performance and owner-operated ease of handling over dramatic styling.
The difference shows in the fundamentals. Both yachts carry 10,000 litres of fuel, substantially more than many comparable vessels, enabling owners to cover serious distances without constant fuel stops. At 10 knots, you’re looking at ranges exceeding 1,500 nautical miles, opening cruising grounds from Australia’s east coast through the Pacific that remain inaccessible to less capable boats. At cruise speeds around 24 knots, you’ll still achieve 400nm between refuelling.
The hull design reflects this philosophy. A sharp bow entry cuts cleanly through head seas, whilst the geometry flattens progressively aft for better efficiency. Reverse chines and significant flare reduce spray and improve seakeeping, while a deep centreline keel enhances stability and protects the running gear. It’s a feature favoured by serious offshore cruising yachts but increasingly rare in modern European designs.
