X-Yachts unveils the XR-41: A cutting-edge sports performance boat

Today marked a milestone for X-Yachts as they unveiled the all-new XR-41 at Boot Düsseldorf, Europe’s premier boat and water sports show. In front of an enthusiastic audience of guests, partners, and friends, X-Yachts CEO Kræn Nielsen shared the company’s excitement, stating, “The journey of the XR-41 started in Düsseldorf, and we are amazed by the interest and feedback ever since. This whole project was an amazing effort, but when you are planing on the maiden voyage just before Christmas, it’s all worth it.”

The XR-41 signifies X-Yachts’ return to its racing DNA after 45 years of excellence in the sport. Designed as a high-performance racer under IRC and ORC handicap systems, the XR-41 also boasts versatility for sporty family cruising. This dual-purpose philosophy positions the XR-41 as a game-changer in competitive sailing and recreational yachting.

Blending performance with versatility

The XR-41 has been meticulously engineered to deliver top-tier performance on the racecourse while accommodating the practicalities of leisure sailing. At its core, the design focuses on optimising speed, particularly in ORC Category B, ensuring dominance in regattas and championships worldwide.

Key to its performance edge is the innovative hull design. The boat’s shallow volume, minimal rocker, and evenly distributed longship volume contribute to superior speed and stability. A prominent overhang at the bow and a V-shaped stern maximise hydrodynamic efficiency. Despite its racing focus, the XR-41 maintains a moderate draft of 2.4 metres, making it suitable for a wide range of waters. At 4.18 metres wide, the hull offers ample beam for stability and comfort, setting it apart as one of the broadest boats in its class.

To ensure the XR-41 retains value and remains competitive over time, X-Yachts has incorporated adaptability into its design. While the hull shape remains fixed, elements such as the keel, sail plan, rigging, rudder, and displacement can be tailored to meet evolving racing rules. This foresight makes the XR-41 a sound investment for serious racers.

Configurations for every sailor

The XR-41 will be offered in two configurations: Race and Sport. The racing version features a square-top mainsail and split backstay, maximising sail area for competitive conditions. The sporty cruising version, in contrast, comes with a pinhead mainsail and single backstay, catering to more relaxed sailing experiences. Both versions emphasise asymmetric flying sails, supported by a long bowsprit for enhanced downwind performance.

The modular interior is another standout feature. Components such as the galley and storage lockers can be removed for racing and reinstalled for cruising, allowing the boat to transition seamlessly between competitive and family use. The deck layout accommodates a full crew for racing but is also optimised for shorthanded or even singlehanded sailing.
