In an exciting overnight development for SailGP, Coalition Capital, the investment company of French football sensation Kylian Mbappé, has announced its investment in the France SailGP Team.
This comes a month after Accor took the key ownership role in the French team.

Mbappé sets sail

Mbappé’s investment introduces his Inspired by KM (IBKM) association as the official charity partner of the France SailGP Team, offering an influential platform to broaden the charity’s global impact. IBKM is focused on empowering youth, promoting self-belief, and providing essential support through sport.

Speaking about his new SailGP partnership, Mbappé expressed enthusiasm for the future:

“We are excited to be on board with this new adventure alongside Accor and other investors. I’m also proud that IBKM has the opportunity to engage more young people around the world through this relationship.”

Highlighting IBKM’s mission, Mbappé added:

“Through Inspired by KM, I want to reach out to young people globally, giving them the strength to believe in their dreams. With our ‘We Care for All’ programme, we provide concrete support and hope. Together, we are building a future where every young person can write their own story and achieve excellence.”

Global appeal of SailGP

Founded in 2019 by sailing legend Sir Russell Coutts and Oracle founder Larry Ellison, SailGP has swiftly become one of the world’s premier sailing events, renowned for high-speed, close-to-shore racing in spectacular locations around the globe. The championship features 12 national teams racing in identical 50-foot foiling catamarans capable of breathtaking speeds. This weekend its LA’s turn to shine with 2 days of racing before a migration of the teams to San Francisco for another 2 days of action next weekend.

Sir Russell Coutts, CEO of SailGP, warmly welcomed Mbappé:

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Kylian Mbappé into our growing SailGP family. He’s undeniably one of the most influential athletes of our time and an inspiration to sports fans everywhere.”

Strategic collaboration

Accor, a prominent global hospitality brand and existing SailGP partner since 2024, played a pivotal role in facilitating the collaboration between Mbappé’s IBKM, the France SailGP Team, and the broader SailGP league. This strategic alliance underscores the importance of cross-sector collaboration to expand the sport’s global reach.

Continued growth for SailGP

The addition of Coalition Capital and Mbappé to SailGP aligns with the league’s significant expansion, which recently saw new teams introduced, including Mubadala Brazil and Red Bull Italy.
