The Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show is back, and 70 years in, it’s pulling out all the stops

The country’s biggest boating and fishing event returns to the Auckland Showgrounds from 14 to 17 May, and the 70th is a significant one.

The grand prize is a Surtees and Yamaha boat package worth over $380,000, the largest door prize in the show’s history. Seventy years in, and the show is still finding ways to raise the bar.

Nicky Wilson, one of New Zealand’s best-known fishing personalities, will run dedicated kids’ and women’s fishing workshops, designed for anyone looking to build confidence and skills on the water. Shimano masterclasses with Matt Watson are confirmed, alongside safety and education workshops and a daily Viking kayak giveaway.

The show floor covers everything from trailer boats to serious offshore rigs, the latest electronics to proven tackle, where you can put gear through its paces, talk to the people who build it, and figure out what you are buying next.

Further announcements are coming as the countdown runs down on the biggest edition in the show’s seven-decade history.
